Description:

Collins Aerospace is a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defence industry. Created in 2018 by bringing together Rockwell Collins and UTC Aerospace Systems, Collins Aerospace has the capabilities, comprehensive portfolio and expertise to solve customers' toughest challenges and to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global market.

Collins Aerospace makes modern flight possible. Of course, that wouldn't be possible without the capabilities and technologies of our organisation, as well as our engineers -- a highly skilled, accomplished network that spans more than 180 sites, 24 countries and 6 Strategic Business Units (SBUs).

This role is part of the International Trade Compliance team (ITC) for the Mechanical Systems business unit. You'll be joining a group of over 300 ITC professionals working across the globe to ensure Collins Aerospace can deliver our products and services to our customers in compliance with Import and Export regulations.

Collins Aerospace needs a network of people who are able to support the business by advising on the local laws and regulations across the different countries it operates in. This role will be based in the UK but you'll support the Senior Technology Manager in covering all Mechanical Systems sites outside of North America -- this includes locations in France, Italy, Poland, Morocco and Hong Kong.

Mechanical Systems is a group within Collins Aerospace which focuses on the design, manufacture, support and repair of landing gear, propeller systems, and actuators for a wide range of commercial and defense aerospace applications.

Within the ITC function, your role will be in the field of Technology Management -- this focuses on the determination of Export Control classification and Import (Harmonized Schedule) classification for our products and technology. You will report to the Senior Technology Manager for EMEA and APACs for Mechanical Systems. You'll also interact with other Technology Management staff across Collins Aerospace, and part time classifiers in the business.

In this role you will:

  • Train and support a network of classifiers across the different sites of Mechanical Systems

  • Support the management of export and import classification databases for our products and technology.

  • Feed into the development of policy, processes, guidance and training material taking into account the different national requirements of the countries where Mechanical Systems operates.

  • Interpret national export and import regulations to advise on issues in the business.

  • Work with other professionals in ITC to deliver the ITC programme, for example supporting licensing or investigations.

Requirements:

The candidate will need the following experience and qualifications;

  • Either;

  • A background in International Trade Compliance, Export Control, or Customs and Imports.

  • OR have a technical/engineering background and experience in determining export or import classifications.

  • Experience in delivering aspects of a compliance programme and working with a business in an advisory role is required.

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field is required - Engineering, Law, International Business.

  • Qualifications and certifications in International Trade Compliance, Export Control, or Customs and Imports are a bonus.

  • Candidates with a background only in shipping will not meet the requirements of this role.

  • Experience in the aerospace or defense sector.

The candidate will need the following skills:

  • You must be able to classify against export and/or import regulations such as the ITAR, EAR, Wassenaar ML and Dual-Use Goods Lists, and/or WCO Harmonized Tariff System-HTS.

  • Spoken and written English to a technical level.

  • French, Italian or Polish language skills will be an advantage.

  • Must be able to work without supervision and manage their own day to day activity.

  • Must be an excellent communicator, confident working with people in all levels of the business.

  • Organised and able to balance working towards multiple goals concurrently.

  • A confident presenter with experience in delivering training.

This role may involve travel within the UK and internationally -- normally not more than one short trip per month.

The role is based in Wolverhampton, but there are opportunities for flexible working available. This could be from another Collins Aerospace Mechanical Systems site (Clevedon, Banbury) or regular working from home.
