As a leader in the aerospace industry, we are growing rapidly and have a number of exciting positions available right now, including an Engineering Co-op in our Aftermarket Services Business , located in Winston Salem, NC .


Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this exciting program will expose students to three separate co-op assignments in the areas of Certification, Design, and Manufacturing and will prepare them for stimulating engineering roles upon graduation. We are current seeking a new co-op to start their first rotation during the Fall Semester to work across the specific roles and responsibilities within each area described below.


  • Learn the Interiors culture and methodology in Certification of commercial seats and diligent FAA duties followed as a team effort to meet the minimum performance standards to gain FAA approval (TSO) for shipment.

  • Incorporate knowledge gained in school in solving real Engineering problems by participating in discussions with Certification Engineers and Design Engineers in coming up with substantiation techniques.

  • Run analyses tools to generate track loads (Interface Loads) and conduct mechanical stress calculations to identify critical seat assemblies and components for Static and Dynamic testing.

  • Learn the significance to Bill of Materials and run comparison to tested assemblies to develop substantiation strategies on new programs.

  • Work with the Flammability Certification Group to create test coupons for conformity, A-burn & C-Burn tests, witness tests and generate Flammability reports.

  • Learn applications of different materials and cross sections in primary and secondary load paths under emergency crash conditions of longitudinal (16g) and vertical (14g) dynamic tests.

  • Learn about the airframe manufacturers’ and government Certification regulations related to commercial seats under Dynamic, Static and Flammability.


  • Modify legacy designs and drawings, and submit for approval through the Team Center engineering change process.

  • Create solid models using Unigraphics NX 7.5

  • Dimension models with characteristics essential to shop fabrication.

  • Review with Tool Design, Programming and Manufacturing Engineering for manufacturability buy off.

  • Incorporate Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T).

  • Optimize Designs for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).

  • Assist in assembly of Engineering prototypes and test seats.

  • Create Bills of Material (BoM's) for assemblies and sub-assemblies.


  • Tool design of machine and assembly fixtures.

  • Press brake Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming.

  • Creation of shop floor work instructions with applicable time studies.

  • Value Stream Mapping of existing processes.

  • Learn measurement techniques for use in product evaluation.

  • Root cause analysis of Return Material Authorizations and First Article Inspection failures.

  • Any other reasonable duties.


  • Two (2) years of course work towards a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university.

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Requires US citizenship or permanent residence (green card).

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA.

  • Enrollment in university co-op program.
