This project engineering position is within the UTAS Heat Exchanger Product Line Organization in Windsor Locks. The Heat Exchanger Product Line encompasses all engineering activities associated with the design, development, qualification, and production support of Heat Exchangers in the ES organization. The product line includes design, project and manufacturing teams in Windsor Locks as well as other UTAS global locations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for full execution of the component development, design, certification as well as supporting production and aftermarket for all assigned heat exchangers. This includes detail planning and execution to assure that all critical program milestones are met and identifying the team resources required to execute the detailed component plan through design, development, manufacture, qualification and entry into revenue service.

  • Lead the development, design, production and certification testing for high temperature advanced technology heat exchangers currently under development for a high visibility engine program.

  • Lead the integrated development team consisting of design, drafting, manufacturing, quality, procurement as well as other functions.

  • Work closely with the customer and systems engineering to assure that technical requirements are being flowed to the team and are being met.

  • Will report status and technical issues regularly with the customer and UTAS management.

  • Provide leadership to the integrated product development team responsible for requirements management, component conception, development, design, definition, supplier detail procurement, manufacture, inspection and qualification of assigned parts.

  • Assure that defined requirements and milestones are met and significant risks are identified and mitigated.

  • Review with IPD team requirements provided via the Product Specification and DOORs to assure that requirements make sense and are achievable or work to change any incorrect or missing requirements.

  • Work with IPD team to assure that requirements are met and verified or where requirements cannot be met, deviations are issued and closed.

  • Plan and maintain detailed schedule and resource plan which accurately outlines all tasks required to assure that all program and product development milestones are met.

  • Manage assigned component budget and identify and report any issues or changes in scope that would impact meeting the assigned budget or schedule.

  • Where new technology is being developed, guiding the team through the evaluation of the product’s TRL level and establishing a plan to attain the appropriate technology readiness level per program requirements.

  • Responsible for reporting of component team’s progress, challenges and solution strategies to customer and Engineering leadership.

  • Work closely with the discipline chief and assure that the IPD team satisfies entrance criteria prior to holding design reviews. Design review co-presenter along with designer.

  • Work with the IPD team to assure that design layouts and detail drawings are completed on plan and that drawing release supports manufacturing lead times and assure parts will be delivered to plan.

  • Establish the engineering program and customer flight test delivery requirements and work with IPD team to develop a plan assuring detail procurement is kicked-off, assembly tooling and production definition are completed in time to assure hardware delivery milestones are met.

  • Ownership of all activities associated with component hardware verification testing. Includes requirements review and preparation of detailed test plans, test procedures and qualification by similarity and analysis reports.

  • Work with selected test facility (internal or external) to assure that test rigs and instrumentation meet requirements of test procedures.

  • Manage definition and fabrication of any test fixtures and tooling.

  • Completion of test readiness reviews.

  • Facilitation of pre-test hardware inspections and delivery of test hardware to test facility.

  • On-site oversight of test rig assembly, testing, test data review as well as verification of post-test acceptance criteria.

  • Ownership of post-test hardware inspection and generation and customer submittal of test reports.

Qualification:

  • A minimum of 3-years’ experience with engineering of mechanical parts

  • Experience leading a multifunctional IPD team

  • Experience presenting to management and customers

  • Experience with task detail planning, budget planning and project execution

  • Excellent English communication skills and strong writing skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
