The Deputy Chief Project Engineer will help coordinate the entire UTAS ES engineering effort required to support Pratt & Whitney Canada programs. In this highly visible role the candidate will have the opportunity to work not only with UTAS engineering but also coordinate with UTAS Program Office and Pratt & Whitney Canada. The candidate will be expected to stand in on behalf of the Chief Project Engineer as required. The candidate will also be expected to manage communications between the engineering teams, the customer, and with both Pratt & Whitney Canada and UTAS Senior Leadership.

Primary responsibilities will include at a minimum the following activities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Project Engineering IPTs in support of Pratt & Whitney Canada programs

  • Manage overall program milestones though tracking IPT’s to commitment and providing overall program execution communication

  • Maintain overall program technical risk assessment including the identification of program level technical risk mitigation plans and establishing and tracking tasks to reduce risk

  • Coordinate overall program technical communications internally and externally

  • Be the engineering focal point for Pratt & Whitney Canada programs for insuring tasks are appropriately planned, base-lined and tracked via EVMS as applicable. Ensure all IPTs are tracking to their plans.

  • Ensure all technical scope changes are properly coordinated with the Program Office and full alignment is gained prior to execution of unplanned work

  • Communicate effectively (verbally and written) to program team, management, and PW

  • Stand in and represent the Chief Project Engineering Office when needed

  • Work with UTAS functional managers to ensure proper resource plans are in place

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with experience in an Engineering organization required.

  • 7+ years relevant work experience in Engineering or Program/Project Management

  • Job requires excellent communication and project management skills

  • Understands the benefits and challenges of leading cross-functional teams

  • Experience with Controls Systems on commercial Engines is a plus

  • Ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the organization (including Executive leadership)

  • Industry experience in Aerospace and Defense is a plus

  • Position may require travel to Pratt & Whitney Canada or UTAS or supplier sites

  • Travel required

  • Ability to speak French preferred

  • Willingness to work nonstandard hours

  • Flexible working arrangements available

  • Overtime required

Education:
