UTC Aerospace Systems, Kidde Fire Protection Systems (FPS) Kidde Fire Protection Systems (FPS) Systems is currently seeking a Commercial Ground Vehicle Product Line Engineer for the Wilson location. Kidde FPS is a global organization of close to 850 employees with offices in the UK, Australia, France and Germany and headquartered in Wilson, North Carolina, USA.

We design, manufacture and service fire protection systems and components and provide integrated solutions for commercial and military vehicles, as well as all segments of aerospace. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a diverse team and support key projects for cost, schedule and technical performance attaining the highest degree of quality and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will possess the ability to produce finished engineering drawings and designs from information provided by customers and local team members, in support of fire suppression systems integration on new and existing ground vehicles.

The successful candidate will be trained on our products and services, leveraging this knowledge to design systems as they integrate onto customer platforms.

The work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Electrical harness layout, component location while working with customer engineers to ensure both space claim and operational requirements are achieved.

  • Documentation and fabrication of engineering prototypes, including machining and mechanical tolerance, electronic breadboards and component design, using customer intent, cost targets, test data & supporting qualifications

  • Troubleshooting fielded components including failure analysis, recorded data recovery, and empirical data collection

  • Designing and testing vehicle wiring harnesses to include electrical load analysis, EMC immunity design

  • Creating critical product specifications and requirements documents that meet customer or market applications

  • Interfacing with internal and external customers and vendors on design inquiry.

  • Other duties will include writing procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance documentation, product specifications, acceptance test procedures, qualification test procedures, system validation and verification and drawing change authorizations.

Qualification:

Basic Qualifications

3+ years of experience

Experience in transitioning products from prototyping and design through manufacturing, delivery and sustaining support, including validation and verification on 24 Volt based systems

High level of Mechanical aptitude and ability

High level of Electrical aptitude and ability is an additional desire

Experience with AutoCAD, 3-D Modeling Programs, such as Solid Works, testing, including writing test procedure, test reports, and designing test fixtures

DOORS and Technical Writing experience a plus

Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis (DFMEA)

Strong Contributor and Team Player

Adaptable to changing priorities and schedules

Ability to support multitasking and fast-paced work environment

Ability to travel, sometimes internationally, upon short notice

Travel – 10%

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required
