This Mechanical Engineering Co-op/Intern position requires an individual seeking an opportunity for challenge and learning through on-the-job experience. This assignment requires working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams across several projects with responsibilities including assisting engineers in design tasks (analysis, selection of components, CAD, data entry) and fabrication of the designed equipment. Test implementation and documentation of testing results are also required. This assignment includes parts procurement and assistance with design documentation including technical reports. This is a significant opportunity to learn and apply the mechanical engineering discipline in a dynamic industry environment. The successful candidate is someone who has a desire and a hunger to learn accompanied with a high work ethic. This candidate should be able to see the “big picture”, realizing that engineering is not simply developing a subcomponent but that there are interfaces within the system and with the real world that must be attended to. In addition, this candidate must be able to work independently with the ability to solve problems, be creative, and add value to the efforts of the group without extensive supervisor interaction. An important element of the job is being able to “change gears” quickly, moving from task to task without difficulty. Be prepared to have fun, learn a lot, and work hard in a professional environment.

Qualification:

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Solid grasp of the primary mechanical engineering major courses: statics, dynamics, stress, machine design, and materials.

  • Experience with Creo is preferable but other CAD packages are acceptable.

  • Hands-on experience including hand tools, machine assembly, debugging mechanical systems, basic manufacturing processes, measuring tools (calipers etc.)

  • A functional familiarity with design and analysis of machine elements including FBD, stress analysis, tolerance studies, 3D modeling, engineering drawings.

  • Prior internship experience in an engineering or design capacity is required.

  • Good communication and documentation skills.

  • Experience with MS Office products.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience and basic machining skills: working knowledge of milling, turning and grinding.

  • Higher-level hands-on skills including: wiring, crimping, soldering, using multi-meters, oscilloscopes, sheet metal work, reworking of parts, etc.

  • Working knowledge of analysis software such as Mathcad, CREO Simulate, and PATRAN/NASTRAN.

  • Working knowledge of integration of systems: cabling, electronics, mechanics, mounts, etc.

Do you have what it takes to push the boundaries of game-changing technologies, deliver results while working with a diverse team of talented individuals, and challenge yourself knowing that what we do matters to the Warfighter? Are you Mission Ready? This job is for you!
