United Technologies Corporation Climate, Controls and Security has an exciting opportunity for a talented leader to manage a Software Testing and Quality Assurance team that is part of the Carrier Transicold Controls Engineering department. The position is located in Syracuse, NY.

Our Carrier Transicold Controls Engineering team is providing game changing solutions to make Carrier's truck trailer and container transportation refrigeration units smarter and connected. Our products are undergoing a radical transformation into intelligent refrigeration systems that are more efficient and reliable. The controls engineering team designs, develop and supports intelligent, connected control systems and is continuously adopting new development technologies and capabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Manager of Software Testing and Quality Assurance will lead the transformation of testing and quality assurance capabilities with adoption of automated testing processes leveraging test automation, virtualization, continuous integration and test management tools. He will also plan testing activities as part of our software development and sustaining activities.

Specific responsibilities will be:

  • Plan and execute (with team) testing and quality assurance activities part of embedded controls software release

  • Manage a globally distributed team of test engineers (US & India)

  • Develop test plans for qualification of embedded control software and software applications

  • Coordinate with systems engineering and electronics hardware engineering organization to build integrated test plans

  • Drive the transformation of test practices by leveraging automation, continuous build, virtual testing, model-based closed loop testing (SIL, HIL)

  • Oversee adoption of test management tools integrated with development and requirement management systems, including traceability of tests to requirements

  • Enhance controls lab capabilities with new testing technologies and solutions

Qualification: Required skills:

  • Experience in testing and quality assurance processes for embedded software development, including test setup design, test management, data processing

  • Experience with driving change through test automation, continuous integration, testing on virtual platforms

  • Experience with MIL, SIL, HIL testing

  • Experience with test management tools like RQM/Jazz and integration with SW and requirements management tools

  • Experience with agile SW development processes

Desired skills:

Electrical/Control System Testing:

  • Actively participate in the project planning, sizing of testing tasks

  • Write test plans and review design documents for testability

  • Participate in design reviews

  • Knowledge of connection of electrical and control systems

  • Experience of field communication protocols (CAN, MODBUS) and their use for testing

Technology, Architecture and Methodology:

  • Understanding of state of the art in testing embedded systems

  • Demonstrated capability to improve quality and efficiency of development methods

  • Familiar with model based verification tools and methods, including modeling, design and testing (MATLAB/Simulink)

  • Familiar with HW/SW simulation and emulation platforms (e.g. QEMU)

Customer Focus:

  • Create, refine and clarify requirements with engineers from different technical background, ensuring requirements are testable

  • Understand end users application of products and impact on controls

  • Evaluate and respond to customer questions and issues

  • Anticipate customer needs and understand how better testing technology can serve our end customers

Strategic Leadership:

  • Experience with leading projects and teams globally distributed

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with at least 7 years of experience

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience
