The packaging engineer is responsible for ensuring that all shipments follow appropriate guidelines set forth by the customer. The packaging engineer will create all packaging instructions and maintain current instructions to keep current with requirements. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for analysis and improvement of packaging standards of Rockford Distribution Center which involves:

  • Develop and maintain packaging instructions for all DC shipments

  • Develop and maintain packaging instruction used in the packaging process

  • Analyze and evaluate packaging methods and standards. With emphasis on packaging standards.

  • Lead teams to find solutions to problems that affect operator safety, quality, productivity, and cost

  • Conduct direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices and establishes standards on operations, set up, and work station layout

  • Identifies areas of unnecessary cost. Researches methods and procedures for cost reduction, material flow improvement

  • Develop and implement new processes or change current processes

  • Develops capital equipment studies and makes appropriate recommendations for capital expenditure

  • Work with outside vendors to ensure appropriate supplies are on hand to support the Distribution Center

Qualification:

  • Prior SAP experience a plus

  • Extensive familiarity with the interpretation and implementation of military and commercial specifications such as MIL-STD-129, MIL-STD-2073, ASTM-D3951, ATA SPEC 300, ATA SPEC 2000 Ch. 9, and many others.

  • Skilled in DOD Wide Area Work Flow

  • Microsoft Office experience including Outlook, Excel, and powerpoint a must.

  • Candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment and possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Candidate must be flexible and having the ability to work on the weekends as needed.

  • An understanding of LEAN manufacturing concepts and Supply Chain Management

  • Customer service skills

  • An understanding of any quality system such as ACE or Six Sigma

  • An understanding of Export and or ITAR requirements.

  • Basic Project Management skills

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Packaging Engineering with 6+ years of related packaging standards experience.
