Pratt and Whitney, Division of United Technologies, has an opportunity for a Packaging Engineer to work in our Londonderry, New Hampshire logistics center (NELC). You will work with our third party logistics team and other P&W Packaging Engineers to develop, implement and evaluate strategies too safely and efficiently kit and transport parts to P&W Module and Engine assembly centers for further processing and assembly. This position provides engineering support to our part supplier vendor base.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design cost effective part protection for jet engine hardware involving physical part review, part print and solid model review, part properties investigation, container and assembly design, CAD system drawings, prototype creation, fit and function check.

  • Develop and implement material handling systems, reusable container systems and procedures for P&W manufacturing and assembly sites. Identify new material handling systems and reusable container improvement opportunities.

  • Provide Packaging Engineering support for P&W Transportation Logistics Systems.

  • Troubleshoot supplier packaging related part damage issues and provide analysis with packaging improvements.

  • Work with Third Party Logistics (3PL) providers to develop strategies for packaging, warehousing and storage systems.

  • Provide direction and oversight for packaging materials selection, usage and cost.

  • Provide support for NELC 3PL supervisors to develop and implement their internal training with respect to all packaging processes.

  • Manage engine assembly kitting tray systems and revision control.

  • Provide packaging Engineering support for the nearby North Berwick ME manufacturing and assembly center.

  • Provide support for NELC shipping, receiving, kitting, inspection and quality with respect to packaging issues.

  • Craft, revise and maintain packaging department drawings and procedures.

  • Provide packaging supplier support for drawings and information, also conduct/support packaging supplier evaluation and Audit. Experience / skill set

Basic Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will possess a Packaging Engineering degree with experience 1year or more experience in protective packaging OR

  • Bachelor’s degree with similar experience.

  • US Citizenship required due to government contract.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with package design, parts distribution, warehousing and transportation are preferred.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously

  • Some proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD) is helpful.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function in a team environment.

  • Craft clear communication

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is essential (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Some ability to read engineering drawings.

  • SAP experience preferred but not required
