We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced manufacturing engineer based out of our Gas Furnace manufacturing facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This position will be primarily focused on incoming automation cells as well as working / improving and repairing existing automation within the Indianapolis facility. Experience with ABB and Fanuc robots is required and a solid fundamental knowledge of Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC programming software is required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with design, planning and execution of automation / robotics for heat exchanger & sheet metal fabrication, material handling and assembly processes within the Indianapolis facility.

  • Participate in implementation, installation teams, including riggers, electricians, etc. to safe completion of automation projects

  • Champion Robotic program changes, troubleshooting and improvements

  • Troubleshooting equipment and tooling issues; providing technical support to maintenance, tool room and production, as requested

  • Recommend, specify and implement preventive maintenance procedures

  • Plan, coordinate and implement repairs, modifications and improvements to equipment and tooling

  • Model and promote adherence to environmental, health and safety policies and initiatives

  • Lead union-represented hourly associates in project and troubleshooting activities

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Support production equipment uptime of automated fabrication, assembly and press tending cells

  • Conduct Robot and PLC program changes and improvements

  • Responsible for projects or multiple tasks within functional discipline

  • Makes significant contribution to the team by applying knowledge of the discipline

  • Works with moderate guidance on projects with short-term focus

  • Has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the discipline and role while continuing to develop specialized knowledge

EDUCATION:

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of BS degree in an engineering discipline or applicable equivalent from an accredited university with a minimum of three years engineering and/or management experience in a manufacturing setting.

AA/AS degree with 5-8+ years of experience

BA/BS degree w/3–5+ years of experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience within a fast paced manufacturing environment. High speed assembly preferred

  • Experience with A/B Control Logix 5000, Siemens S7 PLC’s, various VFD motor controls required

  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic controls is a plus

  • Experience with ABB and Fanuc Robots required

  • Stamping press and/or tooling troubleshooting experience preferred

  • Energetic, hands-on; able to drive change and continuous improvement

  • Experience applying Six Sigma/Lean manufacturing principles

  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with production employees, peers and manufacturing management

  • Ability to work with minimal guidance and direction

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in a union environment is preferred

  • Strong computer and system skills, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office

  • Must be willing to work first or second shift as well as required overtime
