Description:

  • Support and maintain UTC’s compliance with all state and local property tax regulations.

  • Preparation of complex property tax returns including Freeport Exemptions and Abatements, property tax payments, valuation reviews and account reconciliations

  • Assist with fixed asset reviews, asset classifications, valuation appeals and audit defense

  • Assist with the investigation and challenge of assessments with the goal of reducing UTC property tax liability

Qualification:

  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills

  • Strong skills with Microsoft Excel

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of the property tax compliance function, including analysis of fixed asset information and, reporting responsibilities in various states (including applications for available exemptions and abatements), tracking/challenging assessments, tracking bills and payment processing

  • Research and analysis relating to technical and procedural positions for property tax matters

  • Research and analysis relating to assessment reviews and the ability to communicate with jurisdictions and/or challenge assessments in a well thought-out and well-communicated manner, both formally and informally

ENABLING COMPETENCIES

  • Good interpersonal skills, including ability and desire to communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with others throughout Tax and Finance organizations, at UTCHQ and Business Units.

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and under pressure

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Education:

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree; Preferred Accounting, Finance or Tax

  • 2-5 years of property tax compliance experience, ideally experience with compliance software – “PTMS” Property Tax Management System
