UTRC provides technical thought leadership in trustworthy cyber physical system solutions to the full range of UTC products and programs. Our programs involve both practical technology development as well as innovative scientific research to advance the state-of-the-art methodologies and practices.

The Cyber System Security Group in the Systems Department of the United Technologies Research Center has an opening at the level of Principal Research Scientist (P6) in trusted design and implementation, which includes formal validation and verification, logic reasoning, and program analysis. Candidates meeting a substantial subset of the criteria listed below are encouraged to apply.

Cyber-Physical Systems or "smart" systems are co-engineered interacting networks of physical and computational components. Other terminologies related to this emerging technology trend include: Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet, Smart Cities, Smart Grid, etc. Those are large systems that connect and integrate industrial control systems, machines, sensors and actuators with enterprise systems, business processes, analytics and people. The Cyber System Security group at UTRC is developing novel research and technology to address this large-scale and complex system of systems, and provide integrated and adaptive solutions.

Qualification:

The candidate should have a strong research expertise in program analysis of both source and binary codes, program synthesis, and software composition. The candidate should have extensive experiences in the state of the art of static analysis and dynamic analysis tools and be knowledgeable of new techniques in automatic vulnerability discovery and mitigations.

Successful candidates will be expected to

  • Have a strong track record of proposing and developing research and technology solutions to improve the security, safety and resiliency of cyber physical systems

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to set directions and execute projects effectively

  • Be a strong team player in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment

  • Have both strong written and oral communication skills and articulate effectively to both technical peer, senior management and external sponsors

  • Partner with leading academic institutions and national laboratories to perform cutting edge research

  • Author technical papers and reports and generate publications in top peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident status is required for this position.

Education: Minimum: M.S., in Computer science, electrical and computer engineering with 12 or more years of research and development experience

Preferred: Ph.D., Computer science, electrical and computer engineering with 10 or more years of research and development experience
