The Pratt & Whitney Engineering organization is focused on delivering customer requirements, advancing market-differentiating technologies, leading continuous improvement and developing technical leadership.

The Pratt & Whitney Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering module center is seeking qualified candidates for the role Design Engineering Intern. MSEN is responsible for design, validation, manufacture, and delivery of the majority of engine hardware. This includes:

• Nacelle and thrust reverser systems

• External plumbing, components, and ducts

• The Lubrication and Thermal Management Systems

• The rotor support hardware including bearings, seals, and the Fan Drive Gear System – the enabling technology for the P&W Geared Turbo Fan (GTF)

The selected candidate will be in a fast-paced environment, working with experienced design engineers on various tasks supporting operational engines and engines in development; The individual will learn about what is required in the overall design process of parts for engines including new and existing designs. The selected candidate will work with experienced design engineers.

All design work will utilize NX (Unigraphics) solid modeling as well as in-house modeling and analysis tools. Opportunities are available on both military and commercial programs including the Geared Turbofan Family of engines being developed for the Airbus NEO, Bombardier C-series, Embraer and Mitsubishi Regional Jet, as well as the F135 engine for the Joint Strike Fighter.

Key projects & responsibilities:

  • Develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones that meet cost and weight goals.

  • Understand technical processes and design requirements of gas turbine externals hardware including plumbing and ducting systems, component mounts, sheet metal brackets and electrical harnesses.

  • Learn and apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a proficient manner.

Do you meet these Basic Qualifications?

  • US Citizenship is required due to government contracts.

  • You're in an accredited undergraduate or graduate engineering degree program. Fields of study: Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • You will have at least 30 credits prior to starting your internship

  • You have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

How about any of these Preferred Qualifications?

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and consistent record of collaboration, flexibility, innovation and initiative

  • Some experience with CAD solid modeling (i.e. NX / Unigraphics)

  • Proven communication and teaming skills.

  • Strong hands on ability
