Description:

This is a Structures Analyst Internship position in Pratt & Whitney Engineering supporting the development of world class jet engine systems. Provide structures analytical support for commercial or military programs, with responsibility for the durability and structural integrity of gas-turbine components. Responsibilities include:

•Provide analytical support for preliminary & detailed design through all phases, including development, validation, certification, manufacturing and operational service.

•Validation testing (engine and rig) and data correlation with analytical models.

•Support root-cause investigations for operational engines. Identify corrective actions.

•Perform FEA and classical method analyses for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, crack growth, containment, kinematic and optimization analyses.

•Identify design solutions, with multi-discipline teams, that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.

•Advance technology and improve engineering processes.

Document and present results and recommendations to company leadership and external customers.

*Education / Certifications

Currently enrolled, with a minimum of 1 semester completed, in a BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent). 3.0 Minimum GPA Required.

*Experience/Qualifications

Good problem solving skills and enthusiasm to learn.

Coursework or experience with the following is a plus: Structural Analysis, Vibration, FEA for stress/deflection, fatigue, fracture mechanics or kinematics.
