We have a fantastic opportunity for a SOFTWARE ENGINEERING MANAGER at our Danbury, CT facility.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to provide strong technical and functional leadership to a small team of software engineers. Danbury is looking to establish and advance a robust and experienced engineering team to undertake a broad array of engineering challenges. Our software team consists of embedded engineers working on modern hardware platforms for flight systems (e.g., C/C++ running on Xilinx SoC, DSP, PowerPC) and application engineers working on both deliverable software and non-deliverable test software using languages including C#, Python, and C++. Our software engineers work closely with cross-functional organizations such as analog and digital electrical engineering, test engineering, and systems engineering in the development of processing architectures and the implementations of mission solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the software engineering team members along with defining and advocating software processes in collaboration with our quality and software quality organizations.
Leverage industry best practices to establish software engineering development processes suited to our product requirements.
Structure the software engineering team with the appropriate skill set to best meet our business needs.
Establish software engineering as a committed stakeholder in the product lifecycle.
Incorporate modern tools and process flows into existing and new product work.
Participate in division-wide software engineering process groups.
Collaboratively work with functional and program teams to identify new software development opportunities and embedded mission solutions.
Support requirements elicitation for software deliverables.
Provide managerial oversight of team members. Assess team member expertise and target their appropriate deployment throughout the project teams.
Support strategic hiring to ensure continuous support of business needs.
Manage cost and schedule estimates for new proposals.
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
5-10 years as a software engineer. 5-10 years as a project lead, team lead, or manager
Wide breadth of knowledge across programming languages: C, C++, C#, and Python.
Understanding of software development process flows with requirements-based design.
Experience and knowledge of modern tools and software development techniques.
Experience to match problems to solutions with the appropriate architectures and associated technologies.
Proven ability to assess personnel skill sets.
Experience in the aerospace and defense industry.
Familiarity with industry standards such as CMMI, DO-178, and DO-254 for situational awareness and to respond to customer questions.
Experience managing business-wide, cross-functional tools and process implementations.
Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
Familiarity with the Atlassian software suite of tools (e.g., BitBucket, JIRA, Confluence).
Active security clearance.
MUST BE A US CITIZEN AND HOLD A CURRENT US DoD CLEARANCE OR BE ABLE TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A CLEARANCE
