We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced ENGINEER, SPATIAL METROLOGY in our Danbury, CT facility.

As a SPATIAL METROLOGIST, you will be part of the Metrology team which is responsible for measurements and alignments of precision optics and optical assemblies. You will be exposed to various spatial metrology tools, such as large and medium sized bridge type CMMs, Laser Trackers, Portable Arms, and other emerging technologies. You will gain great hands-on experience working on unique and challenging optical systems while learning and teaming up with world-class technicians and engineers. Due to the strength of the practical experience, often this position is used to matriculate into the Engineering Directorate. Major duties for this position include precision inspections and measurements, machine use and providing assistance to the team by developing and executing assignments within the Optical Manufacturing organization. Responsibilities include:

  • Measuring optics in accordance with manufacturing documentation, process documentation and technical requirements under the guidance of the Group Leader.

  • Measuring components and system integration of subassemblies.

  • Work with opticians, technologists and engineers in a culture of continuous improvement of processes and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, throughput and first-pass yield.

  • Ensure safe handling of in-process and deliverable hardware.

  • Compliance to standard work requirements.

  • Support full compliance to Environmental, Health and Safety requirements

Education / Certifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in either Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Math, or Physics. Other degrees of similar exposure to the math and sciences will be considered.

Experience/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic Computer Skills

  • Ability to work safely on fragile, high value optics

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing standards and practices

  • Ability to follow manufacturing instructions in the production of optics and optical assemblies

  • Flexibility and a desire to work on a variety of manufacturing processes

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • College Lab Course work

Preferred Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment including working knowledge of blueprints and tolerances.

  • CMM Operating Experience.

  • Familiarity with Zeiss, Calypso, PCDMIS and Spatial Analyzer software packages is a plus.

  • Ability to apply basic manufacturing skills in the production, inspection and test of optics and optical product.

  • Familiar with machinery and optical manufacturing equipment.

  • Proficiency with technical information (e.g., blueprints, process specifications and instructions).
