Position Purpose/Objective:

  • This is a mid-level position that operates sewing machines and other upholstery tools to assemble aircraft products for Specialty Seating Systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Operates sewing machines to assemble aircraft products

  • Operates Fabric Roller, Hand-Cutters, AutoMetric Cutter and Clicker-Press Punch

  • Interfaces with all manufacturing personnel as required

  • Audits work area for safety compliance

  • Assists in cross training of new hires

  • Identifies and implements improvements to standard work and or blueprint instructions through proper channels

  • Notifies lead or supervisor of product discrepancies or equipment malfunctions

  • When quality discrepancies occur, properly determine the cause of the discrepancy and provide a sound solution or recommendation

  • Adheres to all UTC Aerospace Systems rules and codes of conduct

  • Ensures quality product utilizing UTC Aerospace Systems quality procedures

  • Looks for ways to eliminate safety hazards and improve the overall safety of the workplace

  • Provides continuous improvement ideas in order to support lean and ACE initiatives

  • May perform other job duties as required and available for overtime as necessary

Qualification:

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of three years upholstery experience required

Skills Required:

  • Able to distinguish stitch lengths

  • Able to use electric cutters and scissors

  • Able to determine root cause of errors within upholstery

  • Must learn quality procedures & related specifications

  • Strong knowledge of how to read blueprints and apply to everyday tasks

  • Multiple task oriented

  • Effectively presents information in one on one in small group situations

  • Able to work overtime & other jobs as needed.

Attendance Standards:

  • Consistently be at work and communicate appropriately any attendance issues with your supervisor as per policy

  • Consistently at their work station at the appropriately scheduled time

  • Does not abuse breaks and/or departure times

Possible Future Positions:

  • SMO III

  • Lead
