Area of Expertise:

Provide technical support to the engineering functional groups by performing validation and regression level testing on all of our fire and CO detection products, executing detailed test plans and documenting test results, investigating failures with little to no assistance, and designing/building test beds with minimal assistance.

Typical Roles/Area of Focus:

  • Define individual test procedure and standard work

  • Determine Test protocols for projects

  • Verification of functional requirements in new product designs

  • Analysis of defective product and recommendations to improve/correct the underlying problems

Level of Responsibility:

  • Applies advanced skills to perform functions of the position within assigned area

  • Adapts new procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet the more complex requirements of the position

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. May depends upon others for guidance and direction

  • Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues, and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels

  • Assigned to small projects or discreet tasks within functional discipline

  • Under minimal supervision, performs substantially varied and complex tasks

  • Comply with the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Policy and applicable regulatory and company EH&S rules and requirements

  • Actively support the organization’s efforts to meet or exceed EH&S goals and plans

  • Recommend improved EH&S practices

  • Report to supervision conditions or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards

Qualification:

  • Basic electronics preferred:

  • Capable of reading schematics

  • Understand typical Bills of Material structures.

  • Knowledge of worldwide fire product regulatory standards such as UL268/217/521/EN54 a plus

  • Data analysis

  • Proficient in Excel preferable with experience with macros and VBA or other programming

  • Compile and present data in report format

  • Engineering lab experience preferred, soldering skills specifically, SMT a plus

  • Ability to follow schematics, layouts, installation sheets and verbal instructions

  • Self-confidence and a high sense of integrity

  • Computer literate (i.e. Communications, MSOffice, Engineering Graphical Packages, etc)

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including an ability to interface with other functions in the organization, customers, and reporting to senior management on complex issues

  • Industry knowledge of smoke/fire sensing devices design tools and equipment preferred

  • Excellent analytical skills and experience in problem solving

  • Highly self-motivated and innovative engineer with results oriented, proven track record

  • Able to stand, bend and lift (less than 50lbs) for extended periods of time

  • Must be willing to work out of an office in Colorado Springs, CO

  • Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process

  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process

  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States

Equipment Requirements:

  • High level of competency with various equipment including:

  • Digital and analog test equipment, Multi-meters, Oscilloscopes

  • Soldering, Hand tools, Microscopes, Hand-held power tools

  • Software familiarity/skills needed: Microsoft Office, Minitab, LabVIEW

  • Data Logging Software Test equipment and methods used to evaluate wireless communication

Education:

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering lab environment.

  • Associate's degree with 1–3+ years of experience (preferably in the electronics or related field)

  • Bachelor's degree with 0–2+ years of experience
