We are currently seeking a highly motivated and results driven individual to support Carrier Commercial Chiller Operations in Charlotte. This position is for a Purchasing Sr. Manager in a complex mixed-model production environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will be able to effectively lead a team of procurement professionals in support of operational goals and requirements. The successful candidate will develop and implement both local and corporate supply chain strategies to reduce costs, maximize utilization of material, equipment, and labor. Candidate must also demonstrate knowledge and application of continuous improvement methods in an effort to streamline processes, improving production efficiencies and reducing operational costs.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide leadership to purchasing organization on strategic planning, supplier development, monitoring supplier performance, cost reduction projects, long term supply agreements, improving lead times, and collaborating with product engineering on improved sourcing decisions for existing and new products - all within the plant budget. In addition, this individual will directly supervise, develop and set objectives for salaried employees within the group.

  • Develop and execute UTC’s Supplier Gold strategy, which will ensure Gold spend is achieved and Underperforming Suppliers are addressed.

  • Lead and implement lean manufacturing initiatives targeted at improving supplier lead times, inventory turns, product quality and component costs.

  • Ensure purchased materials meet C-TPAT, import compliance and all applicable agency requirements.

  • Champion employee engagement planning and activities to drive employee engagement within group.

  • Develop team members to address individual development goals, as well as succession planning needs for the department.

  • Participate on EHS teams to develop, implement or support plant and departmental objectives for safety, ergonomics, and environmental.

  • Lead periodic communication meetings with associates to promote alignment with departmental strategy and objectives.

  • Develop strategies to progress department’s ACE status and create roadmap to ACE Gold Certification.

  • Assist purchasing associates in maximizing potential and contribution to departmental and plant objectives through effective coaching, mentoring, counseling and accountability.

  • Propose and implement changes to existing processes to streamline and improve overall performance while maintaining cost controls and creating cost effective use of resources

  • Work with engineering, operations, marketing, and sales to properly forecast and cost new products, as well as, develop material lead time.

  • Proactively communicate with all levels of the organization on material related issues including those involving shipments between suppliers/plants while simultaneously mitigating potential impacts to internal and external customers.

  • Ensure corporate and plant programs are effectively maintained, the plant is in compliance with standards, and the appropriate training is effectively provided to all employees.

  • Participate in any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time to grow and support the company’s success.

Qualification:

Minimum 7 years of progressive responsibility for direct material purchasing within a manufacturing environment. The preferred candidate should have direct automotive or a heavy manufacturing industry exposure in the materials environment with extensive ERP experience and be proficient in Microsoft Office tools.

  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to effectively interact at various levels within the organization.

  • Strategic planning/thinking skills, coupled with analytical and execution skills.

  • Intimate knowledge of ERP configuration, manufacturing processes and systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with lean manufacturing systems or Six Sigma.

  • Experience leading hourly & salaried employees, required.

  • Experience supporting highly complex mixed-model assembly and fabrication operations, required.

  • Proven track record of successful program and project management.

  • Proven track record of negotiations with suppliers.

  • Experience in participating on teams as well as leading teams.

  • Experience supervising and developing salaried employees.

  • Documented lean manufacturing training.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations or Engineering with minimum 7 years experience in supply chain/procurement leadership with increasing levels of responsibility, or a Masters Degree with minimum 4 years experience in supply chain/procurement leadership with increasing levels of responsibility. MBA preferred. APICS or CPSM certification a plus.
