Carrier Corporation is the world’s largest manufacturer of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. The Procurement Manager will be responsible for managing a family of commodities, including copper heat exchange tubes, steel plate, steel fabrications, machined steel castings , and adjacent commodities across a global supply chain. Issuing contract orders, negotiating purchasing agreements, executing cost reduction projects in cooperation with product engineering, and searching for new supply partners are all critical elements of the position. In addition, the Procurement Manager will have responsibility for forecasting material and component prices by analyzing volatile steel, copper, and foreign exchange markets. The Procurement Manager will prepare commodity hedging recommendations for senior management. In addition to these responsibilities, the Procurement Manager will develop and maintain excellent supplier relationships in this environment of accountability and successful project execution.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders.

  • Continuously create and execute cost reduction projects to achieve and exceed financial plan commitments.

  • Innovate new cost reduction opportunities.

  • Represent the company successfully in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers.

  • Locate suppliers of materials and components, and perform quantitative supplier selection for new products.

  • Lead supplier dispute resolution for payables discrepancies, warranty claims, and late delivery charges.

  • Provide continuous, immediate, and effective production line support in the event of supply disruption for any reason. Lead root cause analysis and robust corrective action implementation for such occurrences.

  • Manage the full purchase agreement process: contract writing, terms negotiating, language refining, executive summarizing, and HQ legal approval.


BA/BS degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent technical field of study; MS in Business or Engineering with 3 years experience.


-Five plus years purchasing/ commodity management experience

-Three plus years manufacturing experience

-Two plus years project management experience

-Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to be persuasive and make senior\ management presentations

  • Experience of cost reduction project leadership within the manufacturing environment.

  • Proven ability to succeed in the day-to-day management of sustaining, as well as strategic priorities.

  • Technical knowledge / understanding of the commercial HVAC product industry or ability to learn expeditiously.

  • Ability to persist and succeed with cross-cultural communication on technical and logistics issues.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, and superior follow-up and follow-through skills.

  • Genuine interest and curiosity in global financial and commodity markets

  • Experience with commodity markets and commodity management.

  • Engineering or manufacturing background with strong technical and analytical aptitude.

  • Quantitative spreadsheet analysis of material cost and financial data

  • Product and manufacturing process innovation as a conduit for new cost reduction opportunity

Required Computer Competency:

A strong working competency and ability to continuously and independently expand capabilities with the following computer software applications is required:

  • Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Access

-Chess (Material requirement planning system)

The available opportunity is a critical role within Carrier’s fast-paced commercial chiller manufacturing business. It requires a self-directed focus on achieving and exceeding material cost targets while simultaneously driving improved supplier on-time delivery and supplier defect rates. Carrier Charlotte Chiller Operations is continuing through a sustained period of aggressive product cost improvement, with extensive deployment of low cost country sourcing.
