This position is in the Global Strategy Development organization within the Avionics SBU and supports the Business & Regional Avionics, Commercial Avionics and Military Avionics & Helicopters business units.
The Principal Strategic Development Manager will partner with Value Stream Leaders and other functions to assist in formulating strategic plans and direction. This role will develop strategic objectives, associated strategies and action plans based on fact-based analysis of the market environment. In addition, the person in this role will share in responsibility for facilitating and managing the planning process – organizing and facilitating cross-functional projects and meetings, and developing and tailoring templates for business analyses and presentations.
Identify and evaluate new growth opportunities, develop business objectives and strategies, and collaborate with business leaders to integrate implementation actions into their business planning processes
Lead project teams who are tasked with formulating business strategies with a focus on uncovering potential targets for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and partnerships
Use judgement and critical thinking to synthesize complex competitor, customer and macro environmental data into information and develop strategic implications. Activities will include working with information provided by internal organizations, consultants as well as some independent data collection
Monitor and provide insight into major competitor’s strategies and investor communications
Support the Strategy Directors in the development of annual Strategic and Financial Plans
Assist with frequent ad hoc requests of various complexity from all areas of the Avionics SBU, with the ability to seek and find help when needed while relying on your own exceptional problem solving skills
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
US Citizenship or Permanent Residence is required.
A Master of Business Administration or equivalent degree or progress towards an MBA
Solid aerospace technical experience including knowledge of avionics systems from Collins and peers that is both broad and deep – sources of experience may include engineering, program/product leadership, and/or deep experience as an avionics end user
Qualitative/quantitative business financial skills used in valuation and financial modeling
Prior experience in strategy development or business development is preferred
Ability to be engaging and challenging in business and technical discussions and hold your convictions while being open to and critically evaluating alternative points of view
Strong presentation and communication skills for interacting with executive leadership, both written and verbal with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate your thoughts and conclusions
Leadership skills in leading and working with cross functional teams and networking both internally and externally
