Sensors & Integrated Systems (SIS), a business unit of UTC Aerospace Systems, provides cutting-edge sensors and sensor-based systems for the commercial aerospace, ground vehicle and defense industries including electronic flight bags, air data systems, ice detection and protection systems, fire protection systems, fuel measurement and management systems, guidance navigation and control systems, health and usage management systems, rescue hoists, mission data recorders, and sensing suites for aircraft engines.

UTC Aerospace Systems, a division of United Technologies, is seeking a highly motivated and results driven electrical engineer with design skills to support the development of new products and improvements to existing production products to meet customer expectations, cost and schedule performance goals.

Position: Senior Electrical & Firmware Design Engineer

Based in Burnsville, MN – Vergennes, VT – OR- Cheshire, CT

Design responsibilities include:

Designing and verifying complex hardware and firmware for aerospace applications using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) with a working knowledge of programming in Verilog and/or VHDL.

Circuit card assembly development and analysis of: analog, digital and power circuits including µPs/µCs/DSPs, FPGAs, sensor interfaces, motor controllers, linear and switching power supplies.

Create documentation including hardware design plans, technical requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, qualification test plans and reports.

Support current production designs including quality improvements, cost reduction, component obsolescence and failure analysis.

Evaluate and approve electronic components to meet requirements for availability, performance and cost.

Support project planning efforts and ensure execution to schedule and budget.

Evaluate failures to determine root cause and corrective actions.

Interface and support validation, verification and manufacturing engineers and technicians with product and manufacturing testing.

Apply knowledge of tolerance analysis, simulation and statistical methods to improve robustness and quality of electronic designs.

Experience in the following is preferred:

  • All phases of the design, qualification and manufacturing processes

  • Development and implementation of technical solutions

  • Design practices with consideration for

  • system level performance

  • EMC/EMI

  • bonding and grounding methods

  • analog and digital circuit design and analyses

  • high reliability electronics

  • circuit card layout

  • applicable industry, military and commercial standards

Qualification: 8+ years of experience in electronic circuit card design and development preferred.

Good communication skills will be required to support technical communications. This individual will need to work with limited written and verbal direction and be able to work in a fast paced team environment.

Must be a US citizen.

Education:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Equivalent preferred

  • BS degree with 4-7+ years of experience

  • MS degree with 2-5+ years of experience

  • PhD degree with 0-2+ years of experience

  • US Citizenship is required
