PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is a resource in the ongoing production and support of existing wireless products, the manufacturing introduction of new products, and is a key resource in supporting QA/Technical Services with resolution of customer complaints/field failures that require escalation resulting in root cause and corrective action. Further, the position will interact closely with Product Operations to resolve design-centric shipping/fulfillment issues that are hindering productivity, revenue, and customer satisfaction. Secondarily, this role will also support Hardware Engineering during new product release and introduction as assigned by the Sustaining Engineering Manager (per the specific responsibilities outlined below).

  • Where assigned, creates, maintains, and approves the required processes and procedures to manufacture the Company’s electronic products including the development of assembly processes/drawings, testing procedures, fixtures, operator instructions, and training as required.

  • Supports, validates and maintains internal and external manufacturing processes globally.

  • Develops/maintains/approves required assembly and test fixtures

  • Develops/maintains/approves performance measurements, metrics, product reliability/testing, and continuous improvement projects as assigned.

  • Develops/Maintains/approves applicable work, test, and process documentation

  • Performs sustaining engineering functions such as selection of second source components and layout changes to PCBs (for cost reduction or to address quality issues and modifications to manufacturing process/tools).

  • Resolving product and production related issues with GSM/GPRS location tracking, light and temperature sensor monitoring, and gpsOne™ assisted location-position technology products.

  • Participates in field-testing of alpha and beta units.

  • Oversees/verifies/approves assembly, test, process control, and associated internal and external documentation.

  • Works with procurement in qualifying suppliers, defining special requirements, testing, and processes verification/ validation.

  • Leads and/or coordinates continuous process /product improvement and cost reduction initiatives along with other tasks as assigned.

  • Some domestic/international travel will be required in working with overseas and domestic contract manufacturers and design teams – up to 15%.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • BSEE with 5+ years relevant experience or ASEE with 10+ years relevant practical ‘hands on’ experience.

  • Excellent technical writing skills.

  • Background in electronics sustaining engineering and/or new development support (design support to senior level engineers).

  • Must be able to use (or willing to learn) Lean Mfg/Six Sigma/5S techniques to implement change.

  • Highly proficient in the use of complex lab instruments and equipment (DVM, Oscilloscopes, RF Power Meters, Spectrum Analyzers, Data BUS Analyzers, Data Acquisition Units, temperature Chambers, etc.).

  • Experience with light and temperature sensors.

  • Experience in trouble shooting 2 – layer/4-layer PCBs using mixed signal oscilloscopes to identify root cause of failure and provide documentation of findings.

  • Experience in writing automated test equipment software using C#.

  • Experience using AutoCAD, Solid works, Pads, Cadence, or similar CAD tools.

  • Must be able to work alone or on teams that may be located remotely.

  • Must be self-motivated with a high desire for results and be able to work with little supervision.

  • Previous ISO 9001 work environment experience.

SUPPLEMENTAL SKILLS

  • Experience with RF/wireless hardware and network protocols associated with Zigbee, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, and cellular data is a HIGHLY PLUS.

  • Experience with GSM/GPRS/Global Quad band, SMS and TCP command and TCP/IP, GPS Tracking/Accelerometers.

  • Knowledge of lithium based secondary battery technologies, specifically lithium Ion and lithium polymer based battery packs.

  • Experience in writing embedded software (C, C++, C#), LabView, and/or Visual Basic to test and configure microprocessor-based electronic circuit boards is plus.

  • Experience in writing software tools using scripting languages such as Python.TRAVEL:

  • Up to 15% travel – both domestic and international travel required
