Role Overview

Collins Aerospace, IMS is seeking a Senior Manager, Linux Systems Administration and Infrastructure who will be a leader in Linux systems architectural development, management of systems administrators, and process improvement and associated network infrastructure. The Senior Manager, Linux Systems Administration and Infrastructure will support our Business Aviation & Digital Solutions (BA&DS) business unit.

Business Aviation & Digital Solutions provides best-in-class flight-support and international-handling services for business jets. We have a 24x7 call center, staffed with qualified pilots and dispatchers, but make 100% of our functionality available over the web. Our sophisticated automation is the main reason our business is successful.

Primary Responsibilities:

The successful Senior Manager, Linux Systems Administration and Network Infrastructure will:

  • Work in and support a consensus driven, collaborative development environment.

  • Provide architectural leadership towards data, design and system improvements.

  • Build high performing teams that strive to improve Business Aviation products and offerings.

  • Work with systems administrators to build training and career development plans and ensure that growth assignments are available to team members.

  • Assess priority and impact, and effectively communicate the expected value of the change or changes.

  • Understand the opportunities afforded by partner integrations, the current state of the art, and future business growth to recommend system and software changes and technology choices.

  • Effectively lead the team by providing appropriate performance feedback, conducting annual reviews.

  • Explore new system and software development technologies and potential applicability to improve our system and customer experience.

  • Be accountable for delivery of high quality products on time and within budget.

  • Provide technical guidance to the team.

  • Recommend new technology directions in collaboration with BA&DS team.


Preferred Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Five (5) or more years of Linux systems administration/engineering experience.

  • A minimum of (2) years of experience leading a technical team.

  • Strong working knowledge of the IP protocol suite

Experience in one or more of the following technologies are highly desired:

  • OS Identity Management using LDAP.

  • Nagios Monitoring.

  • Security - HIDS, centralized logging, SIEM, selinux, sudo, iptables.

  • Enterprise backups using NetBackup, Bacula, or Amanda or equivalent.

  • HA Server Architectures – ucarp, pacemaker, corosync or equivalent technology.

  • KVM/VMware Virtualization Technologies.

  • Web Applications built on Python, Apache, PostgreSQL, Oracle.

  • Familiarity with network configuration, routers, switches and network management.

  • Programming: Python, Perl, Shell programming.

  • Operating Systems: Unix, Linux (Arch Linux/Red Hat/CentoOS), Windows XP, Windows 7.

Desired Experience:

  • MVC Web Application Design

  • Responsive Web Design (RWD)

  • Modern Web Frameworks

  • Message Queuing Systems

  • PostgreSQL

  • High Availability (HA) architecture and system designs.

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline; identified skills and experience.
