This UTAS Business Unit is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to manage all technical aspects of manufacturing operations in the Windsor Locks site. This position has supervisory responsibilities for managing direct staff and will provide leadership for flawless execution of both production and development programs. Close coordination with the operations management team is a must to ensure alignment with our customers’ needs and to drive high performance. This opportunity offers a diverse experience: the ability to positively impact the manufacturing process, quality, tools and technology through all phases of a product, from inception to aftermarket support and across the entire suite of products managed. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead an engineering staff of approximately 15 and is accountable to the site manager for execution within the established metrics including delivery and productivity and to the business unit engineering manager for technical performance and technology management. The ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, and adaptable with a positive attitude to lead teams through challenges, address productivity improvements and drive a lean culture.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager shall be responsible for:

  • Supervising a team of engineers in support of manufacturing operations

  • Making systematic improvements to enhance existing capability while driving manufacturing costs down

  • Leading efforts to understand non-conformances and reduce Cost of Poor Quality. Lead 3P and Value Stream Mapping events

  • Implementing Process Certification

  • Implementing systematic tools for work instructions, WIP tracking and cell metric reporting

  • Developing the specific methods, tools and documents to manufacture and/or assemble products

  • Developing metrics and tracking systems to identify potential production problems and opportunities

  • Ensuring the latest developments in manufacturing technology are implemented through the development phases using the manufacturing readiness level processes

  • Working with the design team to insure that proposed designs are within process capabilities

  • Participating in proposals by estimating manufacturing engineering tasks, tooling and manufacturing plans

  • Defining and managing tool and gage requirements and ensure adequate tools and gages are available when needed

  • Working with the Operations Planners to establish the schedules for document and tool releases to production

  • Driving all manufacturing engineering readiness activities during the production of the initial unit (first article) of each specific design to resolve processing and design problems associated with producibility, process capability and tooling

  • Collaborating with design and implement engineering changes to determine feasibility, producibility and cost impact

  • Determining, implementing and leading process improvement opportunities and root cause investigations and corrective actions

  • Taking ownership of manufacturing engineering metrics and technology advancement

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification:

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related experience in the manufacturing and engineering of mechanical products

  • Exhibited leadership and interpersonal skills to drive success. This will include talent development, support of diversity objectives and an ethics-based business culture consistent with UTC’s Code of Ethics, promote efforts to meet or exceed EH&S goals and comply with company policy and applicable government regulations.

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the aerospace industry

  • Project management experience
