Pratt & Whitney PSD is seeking an experienced Special Processes Engineer. Successful candidate in this position will lead projects that deliver processes in support of daily operations in the overhaul and repair of aero-engine casing components, such as thermal coatings, heat treat, water jetting and plating.

Responsibilities include:

•Development and qualification of coating processes for aero-engine casing components by means of plasma spraying (APS) and dual wire arc (DWA)

•Management of development and qualification projects (scheduling, design of experiments, experimentation, reporting, documentation) with full responsibility for due dates, results and costs associated with activities

•Work with in-house metallurgic lab for qualification and day-to-day production support and interpret microstructure results and provide analysis

•Lead SPC data collection and analysis and develop controls based on this data for improving capability of the production process

•Development of tooling for coating processes

•Development of work instructions, procedures, and related manufacturing repair documentation for coating operations

•Creation and control of Repair Source Approval qualification and process documentation

•Works with a sense of urgency to identify root causes and return systems to working order with assistance from the Maintenance Department

•Lead continuous process improvements (analysis, solution finding, implementation) around coating processes and methods

Qualification:

Knowledge in interpretation of product and manufacturing drawings and specifications that define coating and masking requirements

Knowledge in thermal coating processes, particularly APS and DWA

Knowledge in identifying, analyzing and correcting coating process issues such as oxides, porosity and thickness control

Knowledge in process control for coatings as well as in statistical process analysis and design-of-experiment (ANOVA, Factorial)

Six Sigma training or certification is preferred

Knowledgeable in programming of Fanuc Robots using Fanuc TPP is a preferred experience

Good working knowledge in materials technology, especially coating, joining and surface technology is a preferred experience

Good working knowledge of special processes (i.e. shot peen, abrasive blast, welding) used in repair and preparation of components for coating is a preferred experience

Knowledge in designing component masking equipment and tooling is preferred

Knowledge in developing maintenance activities on coating torches and powder feed systems, vacuum furnaces, waterjet systems and/or any other special process is a preferred experience

Familiarity wit CAD/CAM systems and product data management is a preferred experience

Working knowledge of MS office programs

Flexibility working non-standard shift/hours as needed to support operations across 3 shifts

Experience in an FAA regulated business is preferred
