Piccolo Autopilots provide industry leading, compact, modular flight management for unmanned systems. Offering thin form factor, flexible I/O, and expanded capability for advanced applications, Piccolo products are proven in military operations, public safety missions and commercial applications.

The Piccolo Chief Engineer position is responsible for leading product improvements, tech insertions and technical vision across the autopilot product line for current and future products. The chief engineer applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to envision system design, technology insertion, system development, and system improvement. A successful candidate must have strong experience in the development of guidance and navigation systems applicable to autopilots and automated control systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting and driving all technical strategic goals, product technical roadmaps, and technical objectives for the Piccolo product line.

  • Is the main point of contact for technical issues and details as required by the program, customer, partners and regulatory agencies.

  • Provide technical leadership for design, development, system integration, and system architecture.

  • Champion new product development across multiple functional areas within engineering.

  • Initiate evaluation and investigation of new technologies.

  • Ensures the development and maintenance of technical risk analysis methods and gap closure plans

  • Directs/performs technical system-level trade studies

  • Drives product technical execution and decision-making

  • Leads product engineering and development activities to ensure all system requirements are met

  • Ensures overall product integration

  • Supports definition of program schedule

  • Establishes technical objectives for product engineering and assures technical goals are met

  • Collaborates and coordinates across the ISR Systems enterprise to ensure that technologies, operational experience, and technical vision are leveraged.

  • Collaborate with internal and enterprise teams to develop roadmaps and drive tech development via R&D

  • Ensuring that the product technology efforts support the company’s overall strategy and goals.

Qualification: Required Skills:

Guidance and navigation systems, automated systems, avionics and aircraft control and interfaces, related user interface software; system engineering with an understanding of requirements generation and product/project prioritization, aerospace and defense industry technical management, technical leadership of a multifaceted engineering team.

Preferred Skills:

Preferred experience: military and law enforcement avionics, navigation and guidance systems and applications; application and use of airborne intelligence equipment in military and commercial operations. Knowledge of design architecture languages such as SysML is a plus

•Demonstrated documentation / organizational skills

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen, with ability to obtain DoD Security Clearance.

Education:

BS degree w/10+ years’ experience

MS degree w/7+ years’ experience

Preferred Education: Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics, or Physics Bachelors and advanced degrees. (Or related field)

Additional training in systems engineering, automated guidance systems and guidance and navigation systems and domains desired.
