The durability lead will be responsible for mentoring and technically guiding a team of durability engineers in creating and assessing cooling designs for advanced, actively-cooled gas turbine combustors from the preliminary engine design phase, through detailed design, development, certification, manufacturing and post-certification. The durability lead will guide engineers in performing heat transfer, fluid flow, structural, CFD and optimization analyses. Additional responsibilities include mission life and validation analyses. The candidate will be expected to communicate technical progress and status to various program groups, senior management and customers. Interface with numerous internal and external customers and suppliers, including manufacturing, casting and core suppliers, overhaul and repair facilities and airlines. Effectively work with the Durability leadership team to define and execute technology plans, establish standard work methodologies and design system enhancements.

Job Requirements

Ten or more years experience in the design of convective and film cooled airfoils. Minimum of three years technically guiding and mentoring aero-thermal engineers, preferably in turbine airfoil design and analysis Support the technical development of Durability engineers by effective mentoring, delegation of assignments and providing sound technical guidance. Experience in Heat Transfer, Fluid Dynamics, Material Science, Statistics, Lifing and Weibull Analysis. Demonstrated leadership in engineering continuous improvement. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, such as, investment casting, laser and EDM hole drilling, airflow, and metallic and ceramic coating processes. Strong knowledge of airfoil lifing failure modes and mission life modeling for typical airfoil limiting modes such as oxidation, creep, corrosion and TMF Proven experience in leading airfoil failure/root cause investigations. Experience in the disposition of manufacturing and casting non-conformances, development engine test support, field support and customer presentations. Strong writing, presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
