The Fire Safety Solutions group at UTC Climate, Controls & Security is dedicated to providing product and technology designed to protect people and property from the effects of fire and its related hazards. This position is for a mid-level project manager to handle new product development and sustaining engineering projects that requires proven skills in: problem solving, interpersonal relationships and excellent communication while handling multiple projects. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, strive for continuous improvement and motivate the design team as well as being self-motivated.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead team tasked with developing and integrating smoke alarms, gas alarms, chemical alarms, particle alarms, communication networks and notification devices

  • Participate with the team in system design and innovation, prototyping and transition to production. Provide insight into system capabilities and limitations

  • Define, identify and integrate key subsystems and components such as sensors, notification devices, communication devices, etc.

  • Develop diagnostic techniques for and provide support to production engineers tasked with the transition of products to manufacturing

  • Perform system level analyses on designs prior to assembly to ensure design goals will be met.

  • Communicate product transition plans and instructions between the design team and the offshore production engineering team

  • Communicate and manage approval projects at various US and international regulatory agencies (UL, Ulc, BSI, etc.)

  • Conduct statistical analyses to make data driven decisions.

  • Develop test and qualification protocols and design experimental plans (DOE’s)

  • Identify and mitigate project risks using common risk and failure mode management tools such as FMEA

  • Develop detailed project schedules/Gantt charts using Microsoft Project (MP) and track progress to planned schedules

  • Provide and present technical and project status reports using Microsoft Power Point

Qualification:

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite, Minitab, risk management tools

  • Ability to work fast and determine appropriate scope of technical problems

  • Offshore manufacturing experience preferred

  • Experience with High Volume manufacturing

  • Knowledge of detectors/alarms design and processes a benefit
