The Patent Liaison is a member of the IP Legal team providing technical expertise and interfacing with internal UTAS technical and program personnel as well as external patent search and IP law firm personnel.
The role focuses on, among other activities, product patent clearance, competitor non-infringement and invalidity analysis, patent landscaping, patentability assessments, portfolio analysis, and patent/product mapping.
In addition to patent research and analysis, the role involves:
Gathering relevant engineering, technical, and business background information,
Interacting with external patent searcher and IP law firm personnel, and significant collaboration with in-house IP attorneys.
*Experience / Qualifications
3+ years of experience with on-line patent research and analysis tools e.g., Thomson Innovation, Delphion, Derwent, USPTO, EPO, etc.
Aerospace engineering experience
Admission to practice before the USPTO
Familiarity with Anaqua IP management database
Ability to conduct non-patent literature and public domain searches
Other computer proficiency:
Microsoft Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Internet Web browser software (Internet Explorer) and Search Engines (Yahoo, Google, etc.)
Excellent organization, written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Strong ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to work under pressure and manage aggressive deadlines
