Job Responsibilities include:

As a Director of Interaction Design you will help define UTCs vision for digital design.

  • You will lead the interaction design team at the Digital Accelerator; help define and cultivate core skills of individual designers and the capacities of the team as a whole.

  • Lead the definition of UTC’s digital design systems.

  • Establish perspectives on emerging technologies and domains that are or will be relevant to our industries.

  • Help define the collaboration model between the Digital Accelerator and discrete UTC businesses and project teams, particularly where it impacts design quality.

  • Provide oversight and practical guidance to individual UTC software product development efforts, both internal and with vendors.


  • 8+ years of related work experience

  • Experience building and managing a team of designers… Digital Agency experience preferred

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with driving and applying user-centered design processes while working collaboratively with customers, along with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, and user research

  • Ability to convey concepts through wireframes, flows, storyboards, and mockups

  • Fluency in digital design tools, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch

  • Fluency in creating quick and dirty prototypes (for example: click-throughs with Keynote, interactive prototypes with Flinto or Axure, animations with AfterEffects, Invision, etc...)

  • Familiarity with coding and/or understanding of architecture for web and mobile experiences (JavaScript/CSS/HTML, Objective-C, etc...)

  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to work with a blank slate and inspire others

  • Collaborate effectively with remote team members, including designers, researchers engineering, product management, marketing and others

  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills; with excellent written & verbal communication. Must be great at working well in cross functional teams under tight deadlines.
