The Fire Safety Solutions group at UTC Climate, Controls & Security is dedicated to providing product and technology designed to protect people and property from the effects of fire and its related hazards. The Mechanical Engineer will work with a team of engineers throughout the product design process. In this role the engineer will be responsible for managing his/her mechanical efforts and other sustaining activities.
Lead mechanical efforts for fire projects including smoke/heat detectors, gas detectors, beam detectors, and modules
Drive mechanical designs from concept to production
Participate in DFMEA cross-functional discussions
Analyze and test new mechanical designs
Drive product quality improvement and implement material cost saving projects through product redesign
Perform mechanical duties for sustaining efforts
Interface with sourcing, manufacturing, product management and the global network of suppliers
Drive mechanical process improvement through the use of the ACE process
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 3 years of mechanical design experience
Experience in injection molded plastics part design
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Solid Edge, and AutoCAD
Proficiency in PDXpert and other PLM systems.
Knowledge of worldwide Fire product regulatory standards such as UL, ULC, EN54, CCC, etc. preferred.
Team player with strong facilitation / interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement
Strong design skills including experience designing using Solid Modeling CAD software
Demonstrated ability to produce results on complex projects
Must be 18 years or older
Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process
Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States and Canada.
Must be willing to work out of an office in Bradenton, FL
Ability and availability to travel occasionally
